Mikel Arteta fails to land any transfers as January window is closed

Mikel Arteta and his side failed to add any new signings. And they are tend to lose three players as January window slams shut.

Mikel Arteta had an unsuccessful January

Arsenal were sadly unsuccessful in this January transfer window. They already had options in mind but couldn’t make a deal happen. In addition, they are now expected to see some players leave the Emirates.

The Gunners has a January to forget with the manager failing to add any new faces to the squad.

It was expected that the deadline day would go quiet and in fact it did for them. They were unable to land a deal for any new player. Though, they are second in the Premier League standings and are doing good. Their 5-1 win over Manchester City was quite a statement. But there are still improvements needed in their squad.

The top priority in this transfer market was a striker for them. With Arteta publicly stating that the club was searching for attackers, they failed. Now, the north London side will fight for titles without any more firepower.

Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka have had the Gunners in a huge attacker crisis. The club was linked with the likes of Alexander Isak, but it didn’t progressed. As it seems, Arteta will have to work with what he started the season with.

The Spaniard admits his failure after his side didn’t make a single signing in January. Despite his repeated appeals for new arrivals, they were kept away from making any deals.

Speaking to reporters, Mikel Arteta said: “We had a clear intention which is always there as a window open to explore the opportunities to improve our squad with players that can impact it. We haven’t achieved it so we are disappointed in that sense. But as well as we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players. We have to be very disciplined with that and I think we will.

“It’s not a gamble, it’s reality. I think we have to face the reality as well that we have. So we’re going to evolve there as well and have more and have more players from the academy. The ones that are here to be fitted longer.

“That’s a job that is permanent. It keeps evolving and we need to be on our toes. We’re going to have to be very flexible in the front line. Now with the ones we have and are fit, make sure that they stay fit and they keep contributing.”

Arsenal to continue with what they started with

The winter window went very silent for Arsenal. They made no new signings this time. In spite of their need to reinforce following Saka and Jesus’ injuries, they were silent. Mikel had earlier admitted that he wants his side to sign a new forward but his bosses weren’t on the same page.

The north London club is now likely to continue with Kai Havertz as the centre-forward. Havertz will be alongside the likes of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martineilli. Bukayo Saka would also join them when he returns. Their summer arrival Raheem Sterling has had much impact since he joined.

The manager, on Sunday, made it clear that he is not focused on transfers any more. His side have now full attention on their Carabao Cup Semi-final this week.

He said: “My focus is that we have the best preparation we can have for Wednesday. And that was the only thing I was interested in.”
