Arsenal’s recent interest in signing Frenkie De Jong is justified as Mikel Arteta wants to reshape the Arsenal midfield. The Dutchman has shown glimpses as to why he would be the perfect signing for the Gunners next season.

According to reports from a leading London newspaper, Mikel Arteta has told Arsenal to join the race against Manchester United to sign De Jong in the summer. This comes days after the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had reported that Manchester United had initiated talks with Barcelona to sign him.

De Jong would be the perfect signing for the Gunners ahead of the next campaign. Last season’s statistics also prove why he would fit in perfectly alongside Thomas Partey in the Arsenal midfield. In the last season, he topped the list for the highest take on success rate in the top 5 leagues in Europe with 85%. Thomas Partey of Arsenal is second on this list with 81%. The Gunners need a midfielder alongside Partey who has excellent ball retention and then can attack the opposition half with the ball. His excellent eye for a pass also makes him the perfect signing.

Although many reports suggest that Manchester United is leading the race to sign the Dutch midfielder. This is obvious news as United has started negotiating a fee with Barca. Also, Erik Ten Hag wants him to replace Paul Pogba who has already left on a free transfer. Also, Frenkie Jong played the best football under Ten Hag at Ajax before signing for Barca. Arsenal also needs him as Roma wants to sign Granit Xhaka. De Jong would be an excellent signing as they will strengthen in the midfield position. The deal also makes financial sense as Barcelona is still trying to solve the financial crisis at the club to register their own new signings. Also, Frenkie has struggled under the system of Xavi and is often targeted by Spanish Media. Arteta also is in desperate need of a midfielder who can control the game with Partey.

Also, Partey and De Jong would help the club become strong contenders to qualify for Champions League next season. De Jong in the past interview has spoken about how Arsenal was beautiful in the past. Speaking to Voetbal International back in 2019, he said: “I actually thought Arsenal was pretty beautiful in the past. “In my mind, I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route. But yes, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are also right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream.”. Well, now it is in the hands of Mikel Arteta and Company if they want to make a move for Frenkie De Jong.
