Arsenal star Mikel Merino may be showing his talent in the attack, but his name now comes up in an unwanted list.
Mikel Merino in an unwanted list
Arsenal midfielder turned striker, Mikel Merino has been impressive in his new role. After Kai Havertz got injured, the Spaniard took his place in the attacking line. The Germany international is set to miss the rest of the season after he injured his hamstring.
The Spain international has so far scored four goals and has one assist in his last six games for club and country. He has been showing his great form in the UEFA Nations League, UCL and the Premier League as well. He is finding the back of the net in 2x rate as compared to his Real Sociedad and Osasuna days.
In spite of that, he has found himself in an undesired list.
As per Opta data reported by Manchester Evening News, the Gunners star is the third slowest player in the PL this campaign. He has a top speed of only 29.8km/h.
Other slowest players in the PL
Manchester City‘s Bernardo Silva and Wolves’ Craig Dawson are the two slowest players above Merino in the list. Silva has a speed of 29.4km/h and Dawson has 29.6km/h. That means Man City star is the slowest player in the Premier League this season.
Although, the Spain international is not known for his pace. His ball control and carrying abilities are the ones to notice. He has given Mikel Arteta a sigh of relief for a while after the injury crisis in the squad.
The 28-year-old midfielder has great movements in the box. His positioning in the six-yard box has been incredible. As he almost, always scores when he gets into those areas.
He scored the opener in their game against Fulham. His shot got deflected and went into the goal in the 37th minute into the fixture. Bukayo Saka also scored after coming off the bench in their 2-1 win over the Cottagers.
