Nikola Milenkovic is a defender who plays for the Italian club Fiorentina. Milenkovic is one of the long-term targets for Juventus and is a necessary signing for them this summer. The departure of Matthijs De Ligt and the retirement of veteran defender Chiellini have put a strain on the defense department of Juventus.
To relieve some of this strain, Juventus are on the market to sign center-backs this summer. They have signed Gleison Bremer from Torino on a five-year deal. Now, they are looking at Nikola Milenkovic as an option to further bolster their defense.
Despite interest from Inter and Juventus, Milenkovic is most likely to stay put at Fiorentina
Fiorentina are open to the idea of selling the player but they are also open to keeping him this summer if no one signs the player. Moreover, Milenkovic is reluctant to move to a club where he will be treated as a backup option. Remaining with Fiorentina is his most viable option this season. Manager Vincenzo Italiano admits that the club would be delighted if Milenkovic stays at the club. Speaking to Football Italia, he said:
“I hope that Nikola will remain a Fiorentina player. It’s not easy to find someone so clearly enmeshed in our idea of football, he’s a great professional and if we were to bring someone else in, it would take time to get him up to speed. This is a top-level player who will be at the World Cup, so I hope he will remain with us.”
Inter also interested in the Serbian
Inter Milan missed out on Gleison Bremer this summer. Moreover, a departure from their existing center-backs is also likely this summer. To stay competitive, Inter are looking to strengthen its defense this summer. Milenkovic is one of the players on their radar for this operation. However, they have not placed a bid yet for the player. Understandably, Milenkovic is a bit irritated by the interested club’s nonchalance.
However, Juventus are the most interested in signing Milenkovic this summer. Milenkovic has undergone good development in his time at Fiorentina. It is only a matter of time before he joins a big club. Juventus could do well by adding him to their squad. Together with Bremer, he could be their next top defensive partnership after Chiellini and Bonucci.
