Moises Caicedo sums up his poor season at Chelsea under Pochettino!

Moises Caicedo assessed his performance for Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino in the previous Premier League campaign. Caicedo would underperform, unable to live up to his lofty standards.

Mauricio Pochettino and Caicedo would endure a difficult season with Chelsea. The Blues would be inconsistent throughout the campaign. Additionally, Pochettino would struggle to establish a proper playing XI. Especially, considering the huge number of signings in the past few years. Furthermore, injuries would also play a part as key players would be unavailable at crucial times for the Blues. Moreover, most of Chelsea’s players lack experience given their youth.

Chelsea would finish the league on 6th place qualifying for the Europa League. However, Manchester United would win the FA Cup against Manchester City. Consequently, qualifying for the Europa League ahead of Chelsea. Henceforth, the Blues would be pushed down to the Europa Conference League for the upcoming campaign.

Although massively inconsistent, Pochettino’s Chelsea were portraying glimpses of potential in the final days of the season. However, just as things were looking good, Chelsea and Pochettino would decide to mutually part ways. The Blues would sign former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca as a replacement for the Argentine manager. Maresca led Leicester to the EFL Championship title triumph securing automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Pochettino’s impact at the Stamford Bridge!

The Blues would finish 12th under Graham Potter in the 2022-23 season. Mauricio Pochettino would join the Blues in 2023. The Argentine manager would help Chelsea to a 6th place finish securing a place in Europe. However, many consider Chelsea’s campaign to be a flop under Pochettino. Whereas, several applaud the Argentine for his achievements at the Bridge.

Given the capital spent and the talent brought in, Chelsea fans were hopeful of seeing a radical change. Subsequently, they would see improvement. Although, still unable to fulfil their expectations. Many fans are impressed with Maresca’s appointment. Moreover, some fans would express their pleasure on Maresca’s playing philosophy.

Chelsea bought Moises Caicedo for a record breaking ยฃ100ย million which could rise up to ยฃ115ย million based on his performance. The 22-year old Ecuadorian was brilliant for Brighton in the 22/23 campaign. He would be named as Brighton Player of the Season by the club and his peers for his incredible performances. However, he was unable to turn up with the goods at the Stamford Bridge. Caicedo would go on to make 48 appearances for Chelsea and scoring 1 goal.

Moises Caicedo would reveal the reason for his struggle at Chelsea. The Ecuadorian was feeling the pressure at the Bridge because of the money splurged on him. Subsequently, he would feel underconfident and unfocused, unable to show his levels.

The 22-year old midfielder would then compare his time at Brighton with Chelsea. Caicedo said:

“At Brighton, it was all tactical, just with the ball; tactical, tactical, tactical. And at Chelsea, it was run, run, run and it was very difficult for me.

Furthermore, Caicedo would reveal how his agent decided to hire a person to review the midfielder’s performances. Subsequently, Caicedo was able to work on his positioning and mentality and contribute more to the team. He would finally go on to score his first Premier League goal for Chelsea in the final matchday. And what a spectacular hit it would turn out to be. Moises Caicedo would receive the Goal of the Season Award at Chelsea.

Moises Caicedo will be keen to improve under new boss Enzo Maresca at Chelsea. The Ecuadorian has enough potential to establish himself as a key player at the Bridge. Caicedo will be hoping to replicate his Brighton days and then some to help his side in the upcoming season!
