Mumbai Test Day 4:India wins, breaks records

, Six Sports

The Day 4 of the 2nd Test between India and New Zealand witnessed India’s script history. The Virat Kohli-led side won the match to seal the 2 match Test series. The victory by 372 runs is the biggest win for India in Tests in terms of runs. New Zealand had last won a Test match in India way back in 1988 in Wankhede but could barely repeat that performance this time around.

Despite Ajaz Patel’s magic with the red ball, the entire team faltered poorly both with the bat and ball. Indian opener Mayank Agarwal, the primary sculptor of the resounding win, won the Player of the Match award for his 150 in the 1st innings and a handy fifty in the 2nd. Ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged the Player of the series.

New Zealand was at 140-5 at the start of Day 4’s play with Rachin Ravindra and Henry Nicholls at the crease. The Indian spinners led by Ashwin and Jayant Yadav wrapped up the Kiwi innings leaving the batters puzzled in the labyrinth of spin. Daryl Mitchell(60 runs off 92 deliveries) was the highest run-getter in the final innings.

India is now ranked as the No.1 Team in the ICC Test rankings dethroning the Blackcaps.
