According to Metro, Napoli forward Victor Osimhen can finally complete his move to Premier League club Chelsea this summer. However, Chelsea will agree to sign the Nigerian striker on the condition of a loan move. This was expected to happen after Chelsea made a huge number of signings this summer. Chelsea will need to sell more players this summer to avoid the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) of the Premier League. The deal between the two clubs has still not progressed further. Chelsea cannot sign Victor Osimhen or any other world-class striker currently due to financial issues as well.
Chelsea’s transfer business this summer is very difficult to understand. This all started after Chelsea decided to sack Mauricio Pochettino just before the season started. Enzo Maresca was appointed as the new Chelsea manager after managing Leicester City for just one season. Last season, the Chelsea squad was hit with injuries for the majority of the season. Many young players signed by Chelsea in previous transfer windows took a very long time to settle into the Premier League. Despite all these problems, Mauricio Pochettino still managed to take Chelsea to sixth place last season. Pochettino also developed many young players last season and gave them a chance with the club.
Napoli forward should be a priority for Chelsea
This summer has been very difficult for Chelsea. The Blues forced English midfielder Conor Gallagher to transfer from the club. It is reported that the midfielder was not allowed to train with the first team or use the training facility. This decision caused outrage among many Chelsea fans. Conor Gallagher has been at Chelsea since he was eight years old. The midfielder even called Chelsea his boyhood club. However, after selling Conor Gallagher, Chelsea did not sign a suitable replacement for the midfield. Gallagher played the most minutes for Chelsea last season. The midfielder was even captain on several occasions for Chelsea.
Instead of signing a new midfielder, Chelsea decided to sign Pedro Neto from Wolves. The attack on Chelsea is already stacked, and this looked like a pointless signing. The priority for Chelsea should be to sign a striker this summer. Last season, Chelsea struggled a lot without a proper striker. All the goalscoring responsibilities were on English youngster Cole Palmer. Chelsea were lucky that Cole Palmer stepped up for them last season. The English youngster saved Chelsea on many occasions, including an iconic comeback against Manchester United.
Too many signings can become problem for Chelsea
Chelsea have a squad of 45 players for the next season. This will clearly become a problem for the Blues and their manager, Enzo Maresca. Chelsea had many injury problems last season. However, many players like Reece James and Christopher Nkunku, who were out for the majority of last season, are now back. Chelsea also made more signings in the already-stacked positions this transfer window. As we saw in the pre-season, Chelsea was struggling to integrate players into their lineup. The players look lost, and there were no proper tactics from the manager.
Chelsea managed to win only one game in their preseason. It will be a big challenge for Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca to make the players settle into his tactics in such a short time. Players like Christopher Nkunku showed some individual brilliance in their preseason. However, Chelsea cannot manage to win any games or compete for trophies based on individual performances. Chelsea will be facing Manchester City in their opening game of the Premier League. Manchester City beat Chelsea in the preseason, where Erling Haaland scored a hat trick. Chelsea will have to do a lot of work on their performance.
