According to the Express, Victor Osimhen is ready to join Chelsea on loan. However, the Napoli forward has a huge demand for joining the Blues. Victor Osimhen wants to become the highest paid player in the Premier League if the striker joins Chelsea this summer. Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City is currently the highest paid player in the Premier League. The Belgian international earns a huge amount of $520,000 a week. At Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku is the highest paid player, currently earning $422,000 a week.
If Chelsea want to sign Osimhen, they will have to sell some of their senior players, who also happen to be the clubs highest earners. This won’t be an easy task as the summer transfer deadline is almost there. Moreover, Chelsea fans are wondering if Victor Osimhen will be a good fit for Chelsea, considering their recent past with strikers. Chelsea’s owner, Todd Boehly, has no problem breaking the bank to sign a player. However, the Blues have already signed over 20 players in this transfer window. Chelsea are also competing with Arsenal and some Saudi League clubs for the signature of Victor Osimhen. Chelsea will have to pay an estimated £423,000 per week, which is equal to £22 million per year in wages, to sign the striker.
How will Victor Osimhen fit at Chelsea?
Chelsea have signed five new attackers this summer with Joao Felix being the latest from Atletico Madrid. Enzo Maresca already had the likes of Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, and Cole Palmer in the attack. However, Chelsea are desperate to sign a world class striker this summer. This was obvious after the Blues had the worst conversion rate in Premier League last season. Nicolas Jackson is a decent player but the youngster still lacks the end product that is expected of a world class striker. This is where Victor Osimhen can help Chelsea.
Osimhen won the Serie-A title with Napoli after being the top scorer in the league the 2022/23 season. The Nigerian striker has the strength, pace, and technical ability required to play in the Premier League. Many Chelsea fans are calling Victor Osimhen the “Next Didier Drogba.” Chelsea are heavily dependent on English youngster, Cole Palmer, for the majority of their goals. However, this tactic does not always work against big teams, as we saw in Chelsea’s opening game against Manchester City. Chelsea and Napoli have less than a week left before the transfer window deadline, to reach an agreement.
Squad problems continue at Chelsea
Chelsea are trying to sell two of their highest earners, Raheem Sterling and Romelu Lukaku, to sign Victor Osimhen. The Blues are lucky that Napoli manager, Antonio Conte, is interested in signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. Lukaku and Sterling both are not included in Enzo Maresca’s plans for the season. Moreover, Sterling along with other players like Ben Chilwell, are training separately from the first team. Chelsea also stripped away the number seven jersey from Sterling and gave it to the new signing, Pedro Neto. Chelsea are also working to complete the loan deal of Armando Broja to Ipswich Town.
Enzo Maresca will be looking for alternatives if Victor Osimhen’s deal is not successful. Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion was a target before the deal collapsed with the Spanish striker, who has instead joined Porto. Juventus’ Federico Chiesa is also an option as the Italian is set to leave the club this summer. However, Chelsea will be facing competition from Liverpool, who are also interested in signing Chiesa this summer. At the end, Enzo Maresca should try to build the team around current players to avoid issues with game time in the future. The club is already crowded with more than 45 players.
