Nathan Ake Nears City Departure

tennis player

Nathan Ake looks to be out of the door at Manchester City this summer. The Dutch defender has struggled to make an impact in the blue side of Manchester so far. A reunion with former manager Eddie Howe may be on the cards for Ake.

The defender arrived at the Etihad for a whopping deal, amounting close to 40 million pounds. However, he has often found himself second fiddle to John Stones and Ayermic Laporte. Ake is capable of playing at left-back too, but the emergence of Joao Cancelo as an inverted fullback on the left-hand side has led to Ake finding himself on the bench more often than not.

Nathan Ake was initially on the books of Chelsea. He also received a winners medal from then-manager Jose Mourinho, despite having only a single appearance. Loans to a host of clubs followed, before signing a permanent deal with the Cherries in 2017.

He enjoyed an amazing spell at the Vitality stadium. His ball-playing ability was appreciated by many in the top flight. It was no surprise that Pep Guardiola immediately snapped him up as soon as Bournemouth were relegated in the 2019/20 season

But Ake’s time at the Etihad was filled with inconsistencies and injuries. He was not able to cement a place on the team. Now, a departure looks likely

Possible Destinations For Ake

A potential reunion with Eddie Howe may be a possibility. Ake played under him at Bournemouth, and now Newcastle may be interested in securing his services. They are rebuilding with the newly invested Saudi money, and Ake seems like a reasonable addition. A technical, Premier League proven defender is something many clubs would admire.

The defender may not have had a good time at the Etihad. But he has more than enough time and talent to put it beyond him.
