Nelson is having Injury Nightmare: Another Setback for the Winger

Unluckily, Reiss Nelsonโ€™s season has been more downhill than up. The talented winger, who has been starring for Fulham, sees his second major injury compared with the other leg. Bad news: Manager Marco Silva confirmed that the bad news for the second time this season will keep Nelson out for an extended period.

Fulham fans who had the dream of Nelson terrorizing defenders any time soon might want to hold off at least until May. Of course that is, unless he does something superhuman and channels the spirit of Wolverine and heals at superhuman speed.

Nelsonโ€™s Surgery and His Determined Comeback Plan

Nelson confirmed the worst news himself, sharing a photo from his hospital bed, and social media proved to be the greatest weapon to break bad news, as we had already realized.

Nelson wrote that life and football are all about setbacks and comebacks. It hurts, this one hurt, but it is just the part of the journey. I am determined to return even stronger than before, having undergone surgery.”

Silvaโ€™s revelation that the new injury is ‘the same type of injury but in the other leg’ indicates another hamstring surgery, the same type suffered by his initial injury, a hamstring problem. Unless he can pull himself out of injury math (a less exact science than VAR), he could be out until at least early May.

What his Absence Means for Fulham

Like finding out your WiFi is down during a penalty shootout, losing Nelson at this stage of the season is frustrating and all too timely.

Nelson had started to emerge and made 12 appearances, scored two goals, and made one assist before he got his injury. Most importantly he had gained a place in the starting XI and had started five successive Premier League games before the tragedy.

Fulham will have to rearrange their attack without him, and if nobody else makes up for his contribution he may find himself struggling to fill his boots on the pitch.
