The English Premier League authority has decided to employ semi-automated technology, which can be good for Arsenal and Manchester City. Basically, this is a new offside technology that has been previously used in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Euro 2024. There has been no issue with its accuracy and efficacy.
So, it can certainly help Premier League referees take perfect decisions during a potential offside situation. We have seen how this new technology has brought success in terms of managing a game. That is why no Premier League match would be a victim of the wrong decisions.
Arsenal lose the title against Manchester City
When Arsenal were chasing Manchester City, the Gunners faced Newcastle United. Things didn’t go well for the Gunners because they lost the match. The match referee disallowed an Arsenal goal. There was VAR (Video Assistant Referee), but that didn’t help change the decision. So, the referees played a massive role in Arsenal’s downfall.
It is being said that the Gunners could have won the English Premier League if this incident had never happened. At the end, Arsenal finished the season with a two-point deficit over Manchester City.
The Premier League and its referees
We all know that controversial decisions are frequently made in most Premier League matches. Previously, we have seen some referees give unnecessary fouls, penalties, and offsides. The list includes experienced referees like Anthony Taylor, Howard Web, and many more.
Sometimes Premier League referees make unexpected decisions out of nowhere. For example, a few years ago, a horrendous incident happened in the English Premier League. The match was between Manchester United and Everton. Gylfi Siggurdson took a long-range shot, and Harry Maguire was lying at the back of their defensive line. There was another Everton player at the back of the Manchester United defensive line, but he was far away from the ball’s trajectory.
Siggurdson’s shot hit Maguire’s body and got deflected. Then it entered into the net. Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was unable to stop that goal. Few minutes later, the match referee disallowed the goal and announced it as an offside. It would have been a winning goal for the Toffees. There was no logic for disallowing the goal. We all saw that the ball hit Harry Maguire’s leg and the Everton player was far away from the ball.
Last season, Arsenal also faced same problem where referee’s decision costed them the league title because they got defeated by Newcastle with a scoreline of 1-0. In that match, the referee disallowed Arsenal’s goal but the goal scorer was out of the offside trap. So, these types of decisions should not be taken.
Upcoming Premier League
English Premier League will start from 17 August. So, there is 1 day left. According to football.london, Premier League authority has installed GeniusSports AI powered cameras and GeniusQ data platform in every Premier League stadium. This semi-automated technology will instantly generate 3D model of the players and 3D offside line according to opponent’s position. This is surely an upgrade of VAR.
We all know that English Premier League is the best league in the world. There is no doubt about that. Here, each and every game is like a World Cup final. The most interesting thing is four or six teams compete for the title with a small margin. In English Premier League, small teams can also defeat big teams like Arsenal, Manchester City but due to bad refereeing the fans lose interest from a football match.
So, we want that each and every game should be managed with fair and correct decisions. The referees should not be biased, and they should remain neutral because their decision can change the fate of any team.
