Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is surprised by the exit of star defender

Newcastle United started the new Premier League season with a win over newly promoted side Southampton by 1-0 at home. Newcastle boss Howe is determined to bring back their European football spot this season after the Magpies 7th position finish in last season’s Premier League. However, amidst positive news, a transfer rumor is coming out that could break the hearts of some Newcastle fans. Star defender Kieran Trippier could leave the club after spending two and half seasons with Newcastle United.

Kieran Trippier returned to Premier League football with Newcastle United in 2021 after spending three seasons with Spanish side Atletico Madrid. Previously the English international played with Burnley followed by Tottenham Hotspur. Since his joining Newcastle United, Kieran Trippier has been a crucial player for the squad, making 92 appearances till now in the last two and half years across all competitions.

Last season the England international made 28 appearances in the Premier League. Trippier ended the season as the 3rd highest assist provider in the Premier League, tying with Kevin De Bruyne. He was the only defender who finished in the top 10 position of highest assist provider. According to the report published by Outlook, no Premier League defender created as many chances in the League last season as Trippier which is 65. So, no doubt his contribution was very crucial to the team last season.

Will Kieran Trippier leave Newcastle United this summer?

But this season has started differently for the English international. Kieran Trippier was on the bench for Newcastle United for the game against Southhampton. Former Southampton right-back Livramento started the Magpies in place of Kieran Trippier. Previously Trippier was removed from the captaincy spot and was replaced by midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. This incident also added fuel to the fire as many expected that Trippier could leave St James’ Park.

However, when the transfer market was going on, things changed very quickly. On Thursday this week, the 33-year-old was linked with a possible move to Everton. Apart from Premier side Everton, other foreign clubs including Atalanta and Galatasaray are also interested in signing the former Spurs man. At the start of this year, Trippier was linked with Bayern Munich but he remained at the club. Now the situation has changed.

However, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is very interested in keeping Kieran Trippier and denied all the rumors that going on on social media. He said,

“I’m surprised by a lot of the stories that have come out. A valuable member of the squad. His professionalism has been first-class.

“He’s trained really well since he came back from the Euros, I think he’s only had two weeks of training hence the reason why he didn’t start last week.”

He also added that Trippier is an important player on the squad and shows no intention of letting him go right now.

Still, no deal has been made for Kieran Trippier from any clubs. But with just less than seven days left in the transfer window, if the English international wants to leave Newcastle United, he has to decision very fast.
