Tottenham Hotspurs winger Steven Bergwijn’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium seems to be coming to an end. Reports suggested a move back to his native nation Netherlands on the cards. But 90mins have reported that Newcastle United have been informed about the availability of the winger in the January transfer window. Reports also suggest that Newcastle United are interested in the services of Steven Bergwijn.

The Dutch winger made a good start to his Tottenham career. In his debut game, he scored a goal in a famous victory over Manchester City. But since then he has only managed five goals and ten assists in 64 appearances for the London outfit in all competitions. (stats via Tranfermarkt)

Bergwijn has failed to cement his place in the string line-up. He has seen his gametime massively decrease this term and he is still yet to start a Premier League game under new manager Antonio Conte. He has made just eight appearances in the Premier League this term and has featured in just 310 minutes of league action. (stats via Tranfermarkt)

With the situation not getting any better. Bergwijn is looking for a short-term move away from the club to get his career back on track. While Spurs are still yet to make a solid decision on the future of the 24-year-old.

Dutch giants Ajax are keen to land Steven Bergwijn in the January transfer window. Ajax are looking to add more completion and dept to their side to extend their impressive run in the Champions League this term. While Newcastle United are also monitoring the winger’s situation, in the hope of landing the forward on loan.

Newcastle United’s wishlist alongside Steven Bergwijn

Newcastle United are currently 19th in the Premier League table, having picked up just 11 points from 19 league games so far. The Magpies are planning to bring in a lot of reinforcement in the January window to help them survive the drop and maintain their status as a Premier League club.

The Magpies have already signed English right-back Kieran Trippier. They also look set to land Burnley forward Chris Wood in the upcoming days. But they are also looking at a number of domestic loan options. The list contains the likes of Anthony Martial,  Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ross Barkley, Eddie Nketiah and Steven Bergwijn.

The Newcastle owners and faithful will be hoping that the reinforcement in January will certainly help the club escape the drop and set them up nicely for the future.
