Newcastle United are reportedly lining up a blockbuster move to bring Napoli star Victor Osimehn to Toonside this summer. This is according to reports from the Italian news outlet Calciomercato.
The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia took over the Magpies last year. And now, they do not seem to be messing about. Victor Osimehn is one of the best young strikers in business, who has courted looks from Manchester United and Arsenal. As they embark upon a new era, Newcastle too want to flex their financial muscle and try to land the Nigerian to St James Park.
A strong, instinctive finisher, Osimehn has speed that can terrify any defender in the world. He has had his troubles with fitness since a 70 million move from Lille, but Osimehn seems to have settled now. He scored 14 goals this season, as Napoli got an impressive 3rd place finish.
It does not need to be said how difficult this deal will be for Newcastle. Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis is famous for being a tough nut to crack. He will have all the leverage in the negotiation, as Newcastle will be rivalled by more established clubs like Manchester United and Bayern Munich. The Bavarian giants are looking for a replacement up front after Robert Lewandowski announced his intention to leave. However, Liverpool winger Sadio Mane seems to be their preferred choice as of now. Moreover, Napoli will not be looking to sell another attacker after they are losing Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne already.
Can Osimehn Land At Newcastle?
If we look at it realistically, it is extremely unlikely that Newcastle land Osimehehn. They do have the financial resources to compete with the very best in the world. But a signing of Osimehn’s magnitude may just prove to be a little far from their reach.
