Brighton hosted Newcastle in the second match of the 2022/23 Premier League season. The game ended in a 0-0 draw with both the teams giving it their all. Brighton created a host of chances but failed to capitalize. Moreover, amazing saves from Newcastle keeper Nick Pope ensured that the Magpies and the Seagulls both shared a point in the match.
Brighton had two efforts cleared off the line by Newcastle. Pascal Gross missed a crucial chance for Brighton. Moreover, Nick Pope came through for Newcastle with two crucial saves for the Magpies. Newcastle also had opportunities for winning the match. But, St Maximin and Almirion were quite poor on their finishing for the Magpies.
Brighton and Newcastle managers react to the draw
Graham Porter, the Brighton manager felt that a draw was undeserved for Brighton’s effort. Moreover, he also complimented Nick Pope’s brilliant effort through the match to keep Newcastle from loosing the match. Speaking to the reporters, Graham Porter said:
“The performance was fantastic, and although we should have won we’re incredibly proud and we’re very positive about how we played. We’re playing against a top team, you can see the amount of points Newcastle have got since Eddie [Howe] has gone there. I thought our performance was fantastic. Credit to their goalkeeper Nick Pope, we just missed that little bit in front of goal but apart from that we were excellent.”

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe admitted that the match was a bit hectic. He also admitted that Brighton were the better side on the field in the pitch. Eddie Howe said:
“Brighton played very well. We rode our luck at times but we also showed a lot of spirit and unity. We were under the cosh but we stayed calm and we battled through it.”
