The long-standing legal saga of the Neymar move to Barcelona has taken another step. The final court hearing is scheduled to take place on 17 October this year.
Naymar moved to Barcelona in 2013. He was seen as one of the best talents in the world at that time, and naturally Santos wanted a lot of money for him. On his arrival at the Nou Camp, the Brazilian impressed one and all with his skills. Many children idolised his way of playing football. He formed a part of the historic “MSN”trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. He eventually departed for PSG in a blockbuster 222 million Euro move.
While his time on the pitch was a success, there were some murky dealings behind the scenes. Allegations of corruptions were made by various parties. Rossel, the president during the move, quit because of the investigations. The matter is now subjected to a court hearing.
Details Of The Case
The firm DIS, which had 40% of Neymar’s rights at the time of his sale to Barcelona, are the complainant. They allege that Neymar, his family, and Barcelona had defrauded them of millions of Euros.
Neymar moved from Santos to Barcelona in 2013. Although official sources say that the transfer cost 57.1 million euros, but Spanish authorities claim that the figure was north of 80 million. DIS got 6.8 million of the 17.1 million euros paid to Santos.
Barcelona and Neymar allegedly concealed the figures of the move. These irregularities have landed the Brazilian superstar in court. Ex-Barcelona presidents Josip Baremeou and Rossell also face charges.
What Does This Mean For Neymar?
According to an article by El Pais, the prosecution is asking the judge to sentence Neymar to two years in prison in addition to a €10 million penalty.
DIS, though wants a considerably heavier punishment for the PSG man. They are requesting a five-year prison term for Neymar.
