Not a single Indian player was featured in the ICC Men’s T20I Team of 2021 after it was released by the council.
Babar Azam of Pakistan was named skipper of this team.
In the 2021 T20I World Cup, Azam captained his side brilliantly and took it to the semi-finals of the tournament. He was also the leading run-scorer.
Babar played 29 matches and made 939 runs with an average of 37.56 including one hundred and nine fifties. His captaincy got lavish praises as he marshaled his troops in UAE and Oman.
Two Australian players also made it to the list- Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazelwood.
Azam’s fellow cricketer, Rizwan was also in top form in the tournament both with the bat and behind the stumps. He amassed 1326 runs at an average of 73.66 in just 29 matches. It was his excellent glove-work that took Pakistan to the semis.
Also, Shaheen Shah Afridi had a wonderful run in the tournament. He scalped 23 wickets in his 21 matches with an average of 26.04 and an economy of 7.86.
As he’s just 21, Afridi has a bright future ahead of him and will be counted upon to lead Pakistan’s pace attack for a long time.
