Manchester United start their Champions League campaign with a loss against Switzerland Champions Young Boys. Ole Gunnar Solskjær has managed Manchester United for 11 games in the Champions League and has lost 7 games.

The Red Devils started the game very strongly. United’s Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo linked up for their first goal. Further, as the game progressed things started to go downhill for Manchester United. Aaron Wan-Bissaka received a straight red card after a horrifying tackle in the 35th minute on Christopher Martins.

Ole fielded a very strong Manchester United eleven. Despite an early goal in a record-breaking game for Cristiano Ronaldo United lost the game in stoppage time. Meanwhile, Ronaldo equaled Iker Casillas’ record for most Champions League appearances tally (177).

United boss had to change his tactics after the red card. Accordingly, he bought Diogo Dalot for Jadon Sancho. In addition, Raphael Varane replaced Donny van de Beek at half-time. United found it extremely difficult to cope with Young Boys’ extra man. Eventually, they equalized through Nicolas Ngamaleu in the 66th minute. The winger poked the ball past David De Gea.

Young Boys dominated United through the second half. United were to settle for a draw but a Jesse Lingard back pass costed United the game. In the final second of the game United States forward Jordan Pefok netted the winner.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer verdict on Manchester United’s loss:

United boss defended his right back in the post-match interview, “Aaron is normally a very, very astute tackler, one of the best in the world.”

Moreover, he says that United’s next two Champions League games will be played at home. So they will have to focus on those games. Ole believes that United will need 10 or 12 points to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League.
