The Spanish side started their Olympics campaign with a goalless draw against Egypt. Spain played their best football but lacked quality in the final third.

Spain played their second game of the group stage against Australia where Mikel Oyarzabal scored the only goal of the game. In addition, Spain is the only nation yet to concede a goal, this is because they tend to dominate possession of the game.
