Brazil clinched the gold medal in the men’s event at Rio 2016. The defending World Champions France will feature a new generation of French prospects. France named World Cup winner Florian Thauvin and veteran striker Andre-Pierre Gignac to its Olympics football team.

The 18-man list does not include Kylian Mbappe, who is featured playing in the European Championship. Although, the Paris Saint-Germain star had previously said he’d like to play in both the Euro 2020 tournament and the Tokyo Olympics for France.

OLYMPICS 2020 : GROUP SCHEDULE

France have been placed in Group A, along with Japan, Mexico, and South Africa. Group A has the deepest of the four on paper and could eventually produce the champion.

PREDICTED LINEUP AND FATE OF THE FRANCE NATIONAL TEAM IN OLYMPICS 2020

Although the squad majorly pulls from France’s Ligue 1, Kylian Mbappe who exited the Europen Championship in a disappointing fashion has not been included.

Teenage sensation Nathanael Mbuku is a regular starter in Ligue 1 after having shone for Les Bleus at the Under-17 World Cup 2019. Moreover, he led France to bronze at the 2019 U-17 World Cup. He also claimed the silver boot as the second-top scorer in the competition.

France has named both of Tigres’ French players in their squad for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo as two of their three allotted overage players.

Andre-Pierre Gignac and Florian Thauvin both have had careers with the French National Team. Meanwhile, Thauvin was part of the 2018 World Cup team. Andre-Pierre Gignac played in the 2010 World Cup and was a part of the 2016 UEFA Euro team.

Pierre Kalulu has been impressive during his time at AC Milan. In addition to Kalulu, we will be seeing Melvin Bard and Clement Michelin in the French backline. Meanwhile, Paul Bernardoni will be between the sticks. In the same vein, Thauvin will be playing a more creative role, along with Lucas Tousart playing a deeper role.

In conclusion, we could see France reaching the Semi-Finals along with Brazil.
