Arsenal have lost the consistency and that is the reason behind losing one after another game. After defeating Bournemouth, Newcastle too has beaten them. During all of these, one thing which is quite palpable for the Gunners is that the absence of Martin Odegaard. Thus, everybody is expecting the early return of him. Right before the Newcastle match, Mikel Arteta had brought out some major updates regarding this issue.
The Norwegian midfielder is reportedly recovering gradually from his injury and can be fully recovered in coming days. No one even thought that at the close of 2015 when the start of the season was near, Leicester City would lift the trophy of the Premier League; they were left way behind significantly from the beginning. Sinking at the bottom, Leicester City climbed through the entire table to emerge victorious to win the Premier League.
They are also going to win the league, Arsenal. But to achieve that, they need a little luck and players who will help them get back to their form.
Importance of Odegaard
Martin Odegaard played in the last international break with his country. Trying to win the ball from Christoph Baumgartner, it was when Arsenal captain tried to tackle Baumgartner that things were not as planned as this resulted in Odegaard twisting his ankle. His injury is so serious that he remains on a rehabilitation program.
Of course, there is no question that he is the pivot of Arteta’s attack. Bukayo Saka did carry much of this responsibility on his shoulders but the Gunners are missing that final third creativity for sure. It is there where Odegaard-like players come in handy.
Date of Return
The Standard has it that Mikel Arteta is optimistic to see Martin Odegaard in the field of play before the international break. They have tight matches to play next week. Among those are the Premier League clash against Chelsea and the UEFA Champions League game against Inter Milan.
Now, both of the teams are doing great. From the chills of Palmer to the magic of Hakan Çalhanoğlu, the Gunners must know what those things mean. Now, Chelsea stands at 5th place in Premier League, while Inter Milan is at the 3rd place in Serie A. Everyone wants to find out how Mikel Arteta is going to tame them.
Hopes for the title race
Now everyone is talking about that there is absolutely no hope for Arsenal to catch this title. The opponent found the Achilles heel for Arsenal defense. Some time ago, it was treated as the best defensive back line in the entire Premier League. Now, the unbeaten defense is breached by a team like Bournemouth and Newcastle.
At this point of time, Nottingham Forest have so far been at the third position of the English Premier League. This automatically means Arsenal slipped down to fourth place. And on the other hand, Liverpool got atop the league table. There is a seven-point difference between the Gunners and Liverpool. So it is quite difficult for them.
Things can easily change if Arsenal starts getting all the matches coming into their way. It surely will if Martin Odegaard returns to the playing line-up and begins his own magic show once more. To make it better still, Mikel Arteta is planning to introduce a number nine in January for the next transfer window. There are many reports of it being either Vlahovic or Victor Osimhen. If this happens, then Arsenal would become one of the deadliest forces in European football. This will be the creativity of Odegaard when a proper number nine can convert his assists into goals.
