Oscar Piastri will race for McLaren in the upcoming season alongside his new teammate Lando Norris.

Ex-F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg believes that Oscar Piastri could be axed from F1 itself if he fails t beat his teammate Lando Norris at McLaren.

After all the chaos between Alpine and McLaren, Oscar Piastri is finally set to race for McLaren in 2023. He will be joining forces with Lando Norris at the orange papaya.

However, Nico Rosberg has a warning for the young Aussie.

Rosberg told Sky Sports F1:

“It’s a brave move by Oscar, it really is. It is either he beats Lando or he’s out basically of the sport, so it’s really, really tough, but he believes in himself. And if you think you’re that good, you’ve got to go for it.”

Lando Norris is showing immense consistency and even carrying McLaren all on his own in the fight for P4 in the constructors’ standings.

Ricciardo has been a failure in 2022. Norris has scored points consistently with even a podium to his name this season. Rosberg believes it would be really hard for Piastri to thrive there:

‘It is going to be tough for Oscar to do well there.

“Lando is world-class. He’s world championship material there so it’s not going to be easy to go there and do better than Daniel.

“Ricciardo is a multiple race winner, one of the best drivers in the world, and has found it unbelievably tough against Lando. Oscar is brand new to this sport.”

McLaren has an exciting future – Piastri

Oscar Piastri disclosed that a key reason for signing for McLaren was the eagerness of the team bosses towards him.

The former F2 world champion also stated that he was impressed by the orange papaya’s long-term strategy for success. He believes that McLaren is the right place to start his F1 journey with a bright future:

Piastri explained:

“McLaren have a competitive car. Obviously, it’s a tight battle between Alpine and McLaren right now, but they are a competitive team with a hell of a lot of winning history, and I think the environment is a great fit for me. The team has great plans and the future is exciting. I’m also looking forward to working and driving alongside Lando.

“I know it’s going to be a challenge, but I feel McLaren is the right place for me to start life in F1. I’m super excited to get started.”

While Oscar Piastri is all set to start his new journey, the future of Daniel Ricciardo still seems uncertain.
