Palmer Form Dip: Can Chelsea Survive Without Their Star?

For Chelsea, it’s very hard to see the team’s season without core figure Cole Palmer. This has left the 22 year old as the man who is the Blues’ lifeline, dragging them through rough patches most often on his own. The slip of Palmer results in Chelsea’s collapse. It’s been a long time since the club has depended so much, and whose form has plummeted just as recently.

Usually having sharp creativity, Palmer is toothless up front for Chelsea. Brighton cleverly pressed him, neutralised him and he looked more lost than a tourist in central London without Google Maps in a brutal 3-0 defeat.

Cole: The Engine Running on Fumes

This is not a full blown Palmer meltdown. Even in this tough times, he’s had more success out of him than half the squad in their finest days. However, football is a tough game and Chelsea fans are quick to realize that when their star man isn’t on the money.

No one can forget that four goal masterclass against Brighton that rolled in earlier in the season. But that Palmer seemed to have taken an extended vacation. Even against his former club, Manchester City, he faltered with a golden chance to help, it ended with City getting one back. His disappointment was evident, and football meme pages quickly picked up on it.

Why Chelsea Can’t Just “Palmer” Through This

After all, it’s not just that Palmer is on a mild downturn—it’s that Chelsea simply cannot function without him. Oftentimes, in a game, you really need others to step up and when your key playmaker’s having an off day, he can’t just lose it and allow others to win. Instead, Chelsea have had attacking options as useful as an umbrella in a hurricane.

Mudryk’s suspension, Jackson’s injury, and Nkunku’s struggles have forced Palmer to carry the creative load. Opponents know it, defenders swarm him like bees to honey and Chelsea’s attack collapses faster than a house of cards in a wind tunnel.
