Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Levi Colwill: A long-term pursuit?

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has set its sights on Chelsea’s promising young defender, Levi Colwill, as a potential long-term transfer target. According to French football expert Jonathan Johnson, PSG’s interest in Colwill is part of a broader strategy to bolster their defensive options. The young Englishman being viewed as a potential alternative to Lille wonderkid Leny Yoro.

Levi Colwill impressed during a loan spell at Brighton last season. He has since become a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team setup at Chelsea. However, PSG’s pursuit of the 21-year-old may require patience, as Chelsea is unlikely to consider selling him this summer.

Ben Jacobs, speaking to CaughtOffside, also highlighted PSG’s interest in Colwill. He suggested that PSG could be prepared to play the long game in their pursuit of the talented defender. Johnson further confirmed PSG’s admiration for Colwill, noting that while he is on their radar, Yoro remains their top priority.

Johnson explained,

“The young Lille centre-back is the outstanding candidate for PSG – he is the player PSG absolutely want to be able to bring in this summer. He’s also keen to join PSG and further his career with them. He also has the added bonus of being French and from the Paris region, so it’s a good fit for where the PSG project is going.”

PSG considering Levi Colwill as a long term signing

Colwill, however, is not just a backup option for PSG. Johnson suggested that PSG views him as a player with significant potential for the long term. They are willing to explore the possibility of signing him if they are unable to secure Yoro’s services.

“Colwill is someone PSG will look to and explore in case they can’t sign Yoro. But I think the idea that they might wait a bit longer is accurate because he could probably still do with more time to develop at Chelsea. He is a player that PSG are looking at with a view to the long term,” Johnson added.

As PSG continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season, the pursuit of Levi Colwill could be a sign of the club’s commitment to building a team capable of challenging for top honors both domestically and in Europe.
