Journalist Paul Merson shares his frustration about one West Ham United star. Arsenal recently anhiliates the Hammers 6-0 at the London Stadium in the Premier League. Owing to this result, Merson has condemned West Ham man Nayef Aguerd for his performance.
David Moyes’ side was outworked, outthought and generally outclassed by Arsenal at the London Stadium. Bukayo Saka individually was a serious menace for the defence. The Englishman bagged a brace and constantly posed threat on the right flank. One Hammers star Nayef Aguerd was shambolic throughout the game. Though, its not a new deal for the Moroccan. He has been a soft target for opposition week in week out in recent times.
Aguerd’s concentration levels and positional awareness aren’t even good enough for the Championship. It’s time Moyes made a big upgrade on the African centre-back.
Merson slams down West Ham defender
Renowned pundit Paul Merson believes Aguerd did not do necessary preparations for Saka before the game. Speaking on Sky Sports, he told
“The centre-half, you know Saka is left footed! You know he’s coming inside, 99 times out of 100, he comes inside. That tells me, as a player, is he really paying attention to detail who he’s playing against, or are you just turning up on a Saturday or a Sunday and going, I’m just going to play?
You’ve got to have more about you, it frustrates me. I know what Saka is going to do, so if I know what he’s going to do, you’ve got to know if you’re working on this all week. It was shocking, shocking.”
West Ham fans will agree with the views of Merson on their defender. Aguerd is nowhere looking to be a fit in the Premier League and is extremely pathetic. The fans will hope to see him deported to somewhere in the summer transfer window. Moreover, David Moyes must start thinking of getting his side back on track after a series of poor results.
