Paul Merson Thinks Newcastle Transfer Is Better Than Halland’s

Paul Merson has claimed that Nick Pope is one of the standout signings of the season. Newcastle United have recently purchased the shot-stopper from relegated Burnley.

Since Burnley got relegated. Newcastle got him on a cheaper fee. They secured his signature in a deal reportedly worth 10 million. In fact, the English pundit deemed it such a good signing that he placed it above Manchester City’s signing of Erling Halland.

The Norwegian arrived in the Premier League with much fanfare. He is expected to be one of the top talents in the near future. It is understandable why the Cityzens are looking forward to him. But Merson feels that Pope might turn out to be a better signing.

For the sports publication SportsKeeda, Merson ranked the summer’s officially announced signings. He placed Pope 2nd, while Halland was in 3rd position.

What Did Paul Merson Say

Nick Pope is a top goalkeeper. it’s ridiculous that Newcastle United got a player of his calibre for as little as £10 million. If Jordan Pickford hadn’t done so well for Everton at the business end of last season, you could’ve argued that there is much between him and Pope. that’s how good a player the former Burnley man is.

Eddie Howe is looking to build a team that can compete in the Premier League. It could take them five to six years. But they are doing a steady job and not splashing £100 million on a player just for the sake of it. They are learning to walk before they can run.

If they can get 10th place and probably win one of the domestic cups, that would be a fantastic season for Newcastle. Pope will save them points and is a top, top goalkeeper for their project.

Paul Merson

Other than the two signings above, he believes that Yves Bissouma to Spurs is the best out of all of them.
