Paul Wanner: The rising superstar of Bayern Munich

tennis player

Paul Wanner is a sixteen-year-old player who plays as a midfielder for Bayern Munich and the German national Under 17 team. Wanner made his professional debut in 2022 as a substitute for Marc Roca. In doing so, he became the youngest player in Bayern Munich’s history to play for the first team. He is the second youngest player ever to play a Bundesliga match with Youssoufa Moukoko being the youngest ever by fourteen days.

Wanner’s priority currently is to get professional match minutes regularly. Nagelsmann found an effective role for the youngster in the team, that is, as a backup for Alphonso Davies on the left. Wanner’s profile is similar to that of Chelsea’s Kai Havertz. He plays as an attacking midfielder who drifts into the central areas. His nimbleness and running into the box lead to the chaos in the defense. Moreover, he can thread a pass into the opposition’s box with his good passing ability and create scoring chances.

Wanner performed exceedingly well in the last season when the squad’s integral players were out with Covid. His slew of back-to-back good performances earned him a new long-term contract with Bayern Munich. Julian Nagelsmann has stated that Wanner has the potential to be a future superstar for Bayern. Moreover, he is keeping an eye on him and his performances. Speaking to the reporters ahead of Bayern’s clash with Gladbach on 22, Nagelsmann said:

“Paul Wanner is an outstanding talent with a lot of qualities… Wanner not yet fully developed physically, but he’s a very quick player with an unbelievably good technique. He’s left-footed, has very good ideas and believes in himself… he’s definitely a player I’ve got my eye on that we need to support in the future.”

Sadio Mane is heaps impressed by Wanner.

Sadio Mane and Noussair Mazaraoui were amazed when they learned that Paul Wanner was just 16 years old. The duo guessed his age to be around 19 because of his amazing footballing skills. Mane has also gone so far as to state that Wanner will become a world-class player in his early 20s.
