Philogene Twist: Aston Villa’s £15M Gamble to Bring Back Star Player Sends Ripples Through Transfer Market

Aston Villa may have a thought of activating the ‘buy-back’ clause for Jaden Philogene who is currently with Hull City. The winger was again in limelight after his stunning rabona effort deflected into the back of the Rotherham United net. The manner in which he created the opening before contorting his limbs into a position that would tear the hamstrings of some.

Philogene is an Aston Villa academy graduate, who is currently having six goals and eight assists in all competitions. Though, his move to EFL side last year is now looking to be one of the finest pieces of business. Moreover, he is one of six nominees for February’s Player of the Month award. He may find himself having to clear space on his mantelpiece in the coming days as well.

Aston Villa looking to call back Philogene

Hull City vice-chairman Tan Kesler has already confirmed a buyback clause in the contract of English U21 international. Therefore, Villans can re-secure their prodigy for a sum of £15m in future. Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer tells Football League World,

“He’s having a fantastic season. Philogene is looking a snip at £5 million. Should Hull City be concerned about losing him? When you look at it, £15 million isn’t a huge buy-back clause for a player that has great potential. It will be a worry for Hull City.

But, they will be hoping that because he’s playing regular football, if he was to go back to Aston Villa, he would be further down the pecking order.”

The statements show how strongly packed the Villa attack is. One can make a guess by that Moussa Diaby, a £50m summer transfer, is finding it hard to make a place in the starting line-up. Unai Emery’s side currently sit fourth in the table and are in the mix for next season’s Champions League qualification.
