Top 5 Premier League Teams with Most Premier League Titles
The Premier League has featured some of the mightiest clubs in the world since its initiation in 1992. In such a competitive league there are very few teams who’ve managed to perpetually rule the game. Here’s a look at the top 5 Premier League teams with the most Premier League titles.
5. Liverpool – 2 Title
Liverpool won their second Premier League title in the 2024–25 season; managed by Arne Slot. They secured the championship by beating Tottenham Hotspur 5–1 at Anfield on 27 April 2025, with four games remaining of the season. This victory was their second in the Premier League and took their total of top-tier league titles to 20, level with Manchester United for the most by any team in English football history.
They won their first title in the 2019-20 season, when they dominated English football and secured a staggering 99 points. Liverpool lost and drew only three games each that season, which is a testament to it being a great campaign. The victory saw them claim the title after a 30-year wait and they also entered the history books as the second team to rack up the highest-ever points total in a season. Their 2024-25 triumph was just another way of adding to their incredible ledger which has them amongst the Premier League’s elite.
4. Arsenal – 3 Titles
Arsenal have also enjoyed dominance under Wenger, although, the Emirates club is having somewhat less success than some of those that are on this list. The “Gunners” first title was in the 1997-1998 then a second in 2001-2002 but their crowning glory was in the 2003-2004 season where they went the entire campaign unbeaten, a feat which has never been surpassed in the annals of the Premier League. Arsenal’s relative league plight in recent years has meant that titles have not been added, but their legacy in English football is cemented.
3. Chelsea – 5 Titles
Chelsea’s surge to the top of the Premier League came after the club was purchased by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2003. Thanks to large benefactors, the club was able to build one of the strongest club squads in Europe. The first of Chelsea’s four Premier League titles was won in the 2004-05 season with manager Jose Mourinho ultimately clinching the title also in 2009-10, 2014-2015 and beyond.
It’s one of the reasons why they’ve been able to challenge at England’s highest level throughout the 21st century.
2. Manchester City – 8 Titles
Manchester City has 8 Premier League titles, claiming their first in the 2011-12 season in sensational circumstances with Sergio Agüero scoring in the final minute against QPR. City had previously won the title in the 2013-14, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons – their dominance was completed under Pep Guardiola. They set a then-record of 100 points in winning the Premier League in 2017-18, and the following year beat Liverpool to the title by a single point, while the prevent team became history in winning the 2018-19 crown.
City’s current ascendancy, powered by huge funding and a world-class team, has reset the landscape of the Premier League.
1. Manchester United – 13 Titles
Manchester United are the most successful club in Premier League history, having won the competition 13 times. They were English football’s pre-eminent power under Sir Alex Ferguson, who led them to 13 league championships between 1993 and 2013. The most recent of their 13 Premier League titles came in 2012-13, Ferguson’s last as manager.
Few football clubs enjoy winning in the Premier League as much as United and their grip on English football has made them one of the greatest football clubs of all time. The team remains the standard-bearer for the league, and their dominance in the 1990s and early 2000s was unparalleled.
Author’s Opinion on the Rise of Premier League Teams
The Premier League is a fierce league, and although Manchester United’s 13 titles emerged from five years in a row of City or Chelsea titles, Manchester City’s emergence over the last decade now questions that dominance. Both Chelsea and Arsenal have basked in that glory, but it is Liverpool’s most recent surge that has given yet another fillip to the league’s story, its latest page. In years to come it will be interesting to see who will still be competing for these trophies.
