Pundits have criticized Chelsea’s ‘chaotic’ project

Chelsea want to bring back their glory days. For that, they are buying talented players and are selling their homegrown academy graduates. This is not making sense, even to their fans. Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in Europe, but their performance is not up to the mark.

These activities didn’t go unnoticed, as Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and former Manchester United star Gary Neville shared their thoughts on this Chelsea project.

A ‘Chaotic’ project

In a SkySports interview, Jamie Carragher said that Chelsea must stop buying players. He added that in a healthy squad, there must be seven to eight players who will have a fixed place in the first eleven. And there must be three to four squad players, and the rest of the players will be competing for the first team spots.

The former Liverpool player said that Chelsea do not have a healthy squad because they have too many players in their team. He said that players should stop signing for Chelsea, and they should show character by loving football more than money.

According to Sky Sports, Gary Neville said that Chelsea will have another ‘chaotic summer’. Neville pointed out Chelsea’s strategy of getting rid of homegrown academy talents like Conor Gallagher. He felt ashamed of this action because he was also an academy player for Manchester United. Gary added that Chelsea are buying new players to fill the void that is being created by selling these academy graduates.

He believes that Chelsea’s recruitment strategy is not good, and they are offering bizarre contracts to newly signed players, which is not so effective for the club. Nowadays, Chelsea are offering seven-year contracts to new players. If the player doesn’t shine, this long-term contract will be of no use.

At the end, Gary Neville said that Enzo Maresca has the most difficult job in the English Premier League. This is a fact. At this moment, this Chelsea squad lack cohesiveness and team chemistry. So, all the fans are expecting that these things will develop over time.

Chelsea under the new ownership

In the Roman Abramovich era, Chelsea used to buy players by analyzing their attributes and stats. Earlier, Marina Granaskovaia used to be the face of Chelsea, and she always listened to the manager. This is the most important thing for a transfer activity.

Now it seems that these communications are not so good between managers and owners. Multiple reports were claiming that the former Chelsea manager wanted to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but the owners rejected this proposal. These types of things should not happen at any club. If a club want to achieve big things, there should be transparency between the manager and the upper hierarchy.

Last season was a redemption for them because they finished in the sixth position in the English Premier League. While the entire squad was getting stable, Todd Boehly sacked Mauricio Pochettino.

According to multiple sources, some players were also frustrated with the Argentine manager. But positive results were coming under Pochettino. From the starting Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have insisted on building a long-term project at Stamford Bridge. On the other side, they are changing managers after a single season. This action does not justify their long-term vision for Chelsea.

After the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new Chelsea head coach, the fans are seeing a massive change in the squad. Todd Boehly has signed new players for almost every position. This action sums up everything about the current situation at Stamford Bridge.

No club wants to lose talented players like Conor Gallagher. Especially when the player is nurtured at the academy, it is really difficult to lose them on a transfer because it will affect the future of the club.
