Sterling’s apparent desire to not play in the Premier League if he leaves Manchester City next season was initially a blow for Arsenal. However, Arsenal seems to have a perfect alternative for Sterling in Serge Gnabry.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Sterling has not wished to play for the Gunners. However, previously Sterling played under Arteta when he was assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at City. Sterling’s contract ends at the end of next season and there have been no indication of him extending the contract.
Despite the Gunner’s Sterling snub, Arsenal have got a perfect alternative in Gnabry. Moreover, a Spanish news outlet Fichajes has also reported that Arsenal is one of the clubs interested in Gnabry.
How important could be Gnabry to Arsenal?
Gnabry’s versatility could be key to Arteta’s playing setup at the Emirates. Moreover, Gnabry seemed to have dropped a hint at his possible exit from Bayern Munich to join the Gunners. He had said that he is “Always a Gunner”.
Moreover, according to CIES football observatory ,he would cost around £60million. This could be a very good bargain for Arsenal. Gnabry has had a lot of admiration for the North London club which was proven by a tweet. It was made after Bayern Munich’s thrashing of Tottenham Hotspurs in the Champions League 7-2 in 2019. In that tweet, he said that London is always Arsenal’s. Moreover, he had also been pictured with an Arsenal shirt on many times.
Gnabry left the Gunners in 2016 to join Werder Bremen. He failed to agree on a contract while Arsene Wenger was the boss. Arsenal are in need of a forward desperately next season. As Andre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contract ends next season. Therefore, Gnabry could have a prominent role in the club especially if Bukayo Saka is unavailable.
