‘Rahul Dravid Should Be India’s Coach Only In Tests, Not T20Is’: Former Pakistan Star

Rahul Dravid, Six Sports

Rahul Dravid is the head coach of the Indian Men Cricket team. He took responsibility after Ravi Shastri‘s tenure was over. He previously had the experience of coaching as for a long time he was the coach of the Under 19 Indian cricket team. He even took the team to glory. This shows he has good experience under his belt. But in Men Cricket he was unable to show the same results. India were eliminated and could not reach the finals in both the world cups- 2021 and 2022. The former Pakistan player commented that he is fitted for the longest format and not for the shortest format- t20.

Dinesh Kaneria statements

His statements:

“If you picked Rishabh Pant, you should’ve utilised him. He should’ve been sent out to bat higher up in the batting order, after KL Rahul got out. He came out to bat in the 19th over. What can he do then? India would have to change the mindset. Rahul Dravid will have to change his mentality. As a cricketer, Rahul Dravid was excellent in the Test format. He should be India’s coach only in Tests but not in T20Is. “

His intent is not there as there’s no aggression. He doesn’t know how to handle pressure. He was a ‘calm and cool cricketer’ who can stay on the crease for the whole day. But, this is T20 cricket. Here, you have to handle pressure. But, you can’t handle pressure in T20s.”

“Rahul Dravid also made big mistakes before the World Cup. Different teams were set up by the management but preparation was zero. Where was Rahul Tewatia? If he was there, India would’ve had an all-rounder who could’ve played a role similar to Shadab Khan. He bowls and can be an impact player as a batter. You didn’t invest into him. Your bowling department was weak but you didn’t do anything. Mohammed SIraj could’ve been X-Factor while Umran Malik was also not picked. You need express pacers in Australia. You don’t need 120-130 kph bowlers there.”

He praised him as a calm and cool cricketer and in a shorter format, his attitude does not work. In the shortest format not only do you have to be aggressive and quick on the field, one has to be quick and tactics-wise aggressive off the field too. Here experience works less than performance. One who is performing well should be given a chance. He further told that he committed a mistake in choosing the wrong playing XI. Players like Rishabh Pant and Chahal should have been picked. Preparation was not up to the mark even. India has loopholes in the bowling zone and he did not try to improve. Bowlers like Umran Malik and Mohammad Siraj could have been an asset to the team.
