Rajeev Mehta, the general secretary of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), is certainly hoping for a good 2022 season from the National Athletes. The general secretary is optimistic that India could certainly be in the top five medal-winning countries in the coming year in International Events.
Rajeev Mehta optimistic
“In the upcoming international events in 2022, India looks forward to emerge as the top five medal holder countries. We aim to double the monetary award given to our winning players by 2024” said Rajeev Mehta while attending the function organised by Religare Group. The event was organised to felicitate the medallist of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
Neeraj Chopra made history in Tokyo Olympics by claiming the Gold Medal. It was also India’s best Olympics so far medal wise, with a total count of 7 medals. Meanwhile in the Paralympics things got even greater as the Indian medals tally reached double figures and stood at 19.
Story of Suhas LY
In the event organised by Religare Group, Silver medalist of the Paralympics Suhas LY. Moreover, the likes of Olympics medalists Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia and Yogeshwar Dutta were present. The Group felicitated all the Athletes.
Paralympics Silver medalist Suhas said,“I thank Religare Group for honouring the Paralympics and Olympic players. Playing in the event was a very tough journey. My family always stood by my side. Death of my father was a moment that shook my life. I worked hard on my passion of playing badminton.” He also shared his journey.
Suhas was a DM and participated in many events. Moreover, he was the first unseeded player to win the Asian Championship. For Suhas, it became very tough to manage his work as a DM and represent the country in badminton.
Religare’s willingness to help
Religare made the announcement of sponsoring athletes and sporting institutes. “Not only is sports critical for the development of the youth and society, but it is an important tool towards nation-building since it fosters national pride and unity”, said the Executive Chairperson of Religare Group Dr. Rashmi Saluja.
