Ralf Rangnick dismisses rumors of €10 million Erling Haaland contract clause

There were recent reports which suggested that there is a Haaland contract clause in Rangick’s contract with Manchester United. It meant that Ralf Rangnick will receive €10 million if he succeeds in bringing Erling Haaland to Old Trafford. However, Rangnick was quick to dismiss these rumours in a press conference. He insisted that the current focus is to work with the squad he inherited.

Rangnick also added that there were no talks about signing new players as of now. However, he did not rule out the possibility of signing players in January but he himself is not a fan of winter transfers. Rangnick also reportedly identified three transfers for United one of which was Erling Haaland. These targets must have led to the rumors of the Haaland contract clause. However, the decision from Manchester United to reward Rangnick is understandable if it was true. Almost every club in Europe wants Haaland’s signature. Nevertheless, he is not that easy to get and hence did not switch his club in the summer.

Haaland’s transfer is not feasible for even the biggest clubs in Europe. His demands for high wages and agent fees have made it even more complicated for himself and for other clubs. Moreover, there is also strong competition among clubs to secure his service which makes the matter worse. Rangnick had the following to say as he denied the rumors of Haaland contract clause,

“£10m for Erling Haaland, £10m for Kylian Mbappe £10m for Robert Lewandowski and £10m for Joshua Kimmich”

“This is nonsense obviously. There is no such clause in my contract. It doesn’t make sense to speculate over any new players. Erling Haaland is a fantastic striker. I know best myself because I was together with the people at RB Salzburg at the time.”

Why the Haaland contract clause was termed as “nonsense” by Ralf Rangnick?

Manchester United have appointed Ralf Rangnick to get them through this season. The German manager has a reputation for improving clubs and developing for the future. United have a very well-equipped squad with both young talent and experience. However, they have struggled this season to get a proper game plan. Rangnick also does not have a track record of signing very expensive players. Instead, he signs players and increases their price tag by a lot. United just have to get through with this season and recover as much as they can.

It will be idiotic for Rangnick to bring in such big transfers even though he is an interim manager and has a good enough squad. However, the possibility of making such big transfers is thinkable when Rangnick takes over the consultancy job after his interim stint as manager. Even though Haaland is an excellent transfer for any team, it is not advised for United to go through with that. United must stabilize themselves first and establish a playing style and get a good run of results to end the season on high. Then only they can think about these massive transfers.

Even though Rangnick is not a fan of January transfer, Manchester United are linked with Amadou Haidara and Christopher Nkunku ahead of the winter transfer window. The possibility of United signing Haaland in winter is close to zero and they will make a decision regarding the same in the summer. United are currently 7th on the Premier League table. Moreover, the main focus of United should be ending the season on a high and securing a Champions League spot for next season. This should get United the required momentum to challenge for the title the next season.
