India Women’s team have landed in Sri Lanka and will be playing a limited-overs series against the hosts.
Head Coach Ramesh Powar said before India’s departure that it is a great time for youngsters to bring out the best of themselves.
Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey are not a part of this tour and this puts added responsibility on the four pacers.
India’s pace attack consists of Meghna Singh, Pooja Vastrakar, Renuka Thakur and Simran Dil Bahadur.
Harmanpreet Kaur also added that it is important that they form a winning habit with the new team going forward.
She also added that she will not hesitate in giving chances to any player who is performing well.
India will firstly play with their premier combination in the series and will decide on the changes after.
Post-Mithali Raj, India Women have now entered a transitional phase and will look to create a young brigade.
In 2018, when Harmanpreet Kaur and Ramesh Powar teamed up together, India became a strong team in the T20Is when India were on an unbeaten winning streak that lasted for 7 matches.
India now needs to have a good amount of silverware in their cabinet by winning future ICC tournaments.
Powar said that they are working with the BCCI and NCA on this so that they can beat all the teams going forward.
India Women will also be participating in the Commonwealth Games in July this year.
Thus, the women’s team needs to have a combination that can become a threatening playing XI for any opposition.
