Randal Kolo Muani’s €75m (£64.2m) PSG switch was a summer of promise for Paris Saint-Germain but has seen the former Eintracht Frankfurt hero play less brightly. Worryingly, including the extra €15 million (£12.2 million) in performance-based add-ons, PSG’s investment so far has failed to spark as brightly as planned. It has not been a smooth ride for the French striker at the Parisian club, who’s closing in on the first half of his career and the winter transfer window is bearing down.
Kolo Muani looked destined for stardom from the start at PSG. Unfortunately, fate or Luis Enrique’s lineup choices had other ideas. Kolo Muani, with his obvious talent and adaptability in so many attacking roles, has only started two of his club’s matches in all competitions this season. Yes, two. That’s fewer starts than I’ve tried making a souffle, and it’s turned out scrambled eggs fewer times.
Manager Luis Enrique, a man of few words but plenty of cryptic statements, commented on the situation earlier this month: “It’s something I could speak about, but I’d rather not.” Translation? They say not to discuss the topic, so here’s a hint to keep you wondering. Although Enrique claims his decisions are ‘subject to change,’ he is currently keeping Kolo Muani out of the game.
Chelsea’s Interest in Randal Kolo Muani: A Fresh Start?
With a potential lifeline enter Chelsea, stage left. West London club is planning a move for the 26-year-old forward, reports Foot Mercato. It’s understandable that Chelsea are interested in Kolo Muani, given his versatility and technical skill, which could be just what their attack needs.
However, there’s even drama brewing at Stamford Bridge! Mykhailo Mudryk was among those suspended by Enzo Maresca’s squad after testing positive, later being replaced by Markus Schubert. Kolo Muani’s ability to step into almost any attacking role comes off less like a luxury and far more like a necessity now.
London, if Chelsea does land Kolo Muani, there’s buzz that Christopher Nkunku is on his way out. If that’s the case, PSG might return a favor to Nkunku, who reportedly feels disappointed by his limited Premier League opportunities.
The Contenders: Who Else Wants Randal Kolo Muani?
Chelsea also wants Kolo Muani. He is reportedly somebody that Arsenal are considering as a temporary solution to Bukayo Saka’s long-term injury. There are many shadows lurking if the opportunity presents itself, with Manchester United, Juventus, RB Leipzig, Galatasaray, and AC Milan all in the mix. Reports suggest Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also lost sleep considering the transfer.
What Lies Ahead for Kolo Muani
Randal Kolo Muani’s future hangs in the balance, but one thing is certain: he needs to play. Whether it’s Chelsea, Arsenal, or any of the other first clubs you may be showing, if you find a team that values his skills and gives him the chance to shine, that’s the key. For PSG, a loss could very well be another club’s gain.
Author’s Take: A Personal (and Humorous) View
As I can’t refrain from chiming in here, I’d like to personally say Kolo Muani deserves a fresh start. It is watching him sit on the sidelines at PSG and not at Middlesex. It gets you where you need to go, sure, but where’s the fun?
There might be no better place to go than Chelsea. They have the drama, the budget, and a need for that sort of dynamism. Meanwhile, Stamford Bridge fans would at least have something to cheer about other than overpriced popcorn. But let’s not forget, this is football, and January transfer windows are like soap operas: full of twists, occasionally with dubious characters, and all very unpredictable.
And as the January transfer window rolls around, consider Kolo Muani. Whatever he does next could make or break his career… and maybe even get us all talking about it over our soufflés (or scrambled eggs).
