Rashford: Barcelona Move Hinges on Ansu Fati

Marcus Rashford-Jones’ fate at Manchester United has been hotly debated as FC Barcelona suddenly pops up as an escape route. First up, though, Rashford needs to pack his bags for sunny Spain before Barcelona can offload Ansu Fati.

Rashford’s Camp Nou dream could be put on hold, yes, until Fati can find a new home. The irony? Once untouchable at United, Rashford now relies on the fortunes of a player fighting for game time in Barcelona.

Ansu Fati: The Key to Rashford’s Move?

Then there was Ansu Fati, the golden boy of Barcelona, the next Messi. Fast forward to today, and the 21-year-old is now unwanted by new manager Hansi Flick. They have stalled his career since, injuries aside, Fati no longer fits into Barcelona’s long-term plans.

Barca are, apparently, seriously trying to move him on, and Fenerbahce have apparently registered an interest—thanks, of course, to Jose Mourinho. Fati could be the special one for the Special One as a replacement for Allan Saint-Maximin, who has been, one could say, not quite so special on loan.

The catch is, however, if Fati leaves, then only would Barcelona be able to move for Rashford. It’s a whole load of ifs and maybes making this transfer saga messy, but then so is a VAR call in a big Champions League final.

Rashford’s Situation at United: Amorim’s Dilemma

New boss Ruben Amorim has essentially stated that Rashford’s future is unclear at Manchester United. The English winger, once a talisman at the spear of the attack, is now making way for minutes under the new regime.

But with Borussia Dortmund and Juventus in the mix, a move to Barcelona might sound glamorous, but not for Rashford. The problem? Barcelona are being indecisive, and United want him off quickly, but they have their own agenda to deal with.

And for Rashford, maybe spinning a wheel to decide his next club could be a better idea, because this saga is taking longer than a Premier League VAR review.

What’s Next for Rashford?

Fans of United are divided—some are urging Rashford to stay with the club and reclaim his best form, while others insist he should go while he is still young enough to know the good life. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s struggles with finances have seen Barcelona fans screaming to be rid of Rashford rather than screaming for him.

If the Fati deal falls through, then Barcelona could look elsewhere, and Rashford finds himself in a tricky position. Would it be better if Dortmund or Juventus were your preference? Possibly. So would he stay on, sulking on the bench? Also possible. Even Rashford probably doesn’t know what’s going to happen next at this rate.

My Take on the Saga

In truth, this transfer saga has been of the kind one tends to watch once in a while on television—a soap opera—with plenty of unexpected twists, prolonged dramatic pauses and a ton of unanswered questions. As a football fan, it’s frustrating to see how much Rashford could be wasted at United. Barcelona’s style could fit him perfectly, but if only they actually signed him, he thrives in a system that allows him to run, and, in this reality, he couldn’t ask for a better set-up.

But if Barcelona can offload Fati, it’s risky. I’d personally consider Dortmund a better option than Rashford, but if he were me… They are a fast, attacking football team and, more importantly, they actually want him. They might not be wise for waiting for Barcelona, but for Rashford, who would feature in the next chapter of Football’s Most Dramatic Transfer Sagas, it could be a fairly shrewd move.
