Real Madrid is rumoured to be interested in signing Edinson Cavani on loan in January, after having previously considered a move during the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid has made a really strong start to the new season. This is so as they have not lost any games in LaLiga, sitting top of the table with 17 points. The Champions League has been more of a struggle. With Real Madrid only narrowly beating Inter before falling to a shocking 2-1 home defeat to first-timers Sheriff on Tuesday.

Club president Florentino Perez was keen on adding to the squad in the summer, as evidenced by their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe. When that deal was unsuccessful, he remained keen to bring in a lower-cost striker. The list of Real Madrid included Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Falcao, as well as Cavani.

Real Madrid could go back for Cavani in January as he has fallen down the pecking order at United. After the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, he hasn’t been the main number for the team. The 34-year-old has recently returned from injury to feature in his side’s last two matches against Aston Villa and Villarreal respectively.

To boost their forward options, Barcelona has recently been interested in Cavani too. Following the release of Lionel Messi, for the remainder of the season with a low-cost signing due to their budget cap. Cavani showed last season he can still compete at the top level the last term. He scored 17 times and registered six assists in 42 appearances for Manchester United.

He finished the season as United’s first-choice striker but Ronaldo has since usurped him. Anthony Martial and the soon to be returning Marcus Rashford also increase competition for playing time.
