Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior was racially abused by Athletico fans before the Madrid derby. However, the Brazilian had the last laugh in the match.

He helped Real Madrid beat Athletico 2-1. However, the racist chants and hooting toward the Brazilian prove that there is a world beyond football.

Real Madrid man of the moment Vinicius Junior again played brilliantly as Real defeated Athletico Madrid 2-1 in the Madrid derby. The win saw them maintain their two-point lead in La Liga. This win also saw them stay unbeaten this season. The first goal of the game was brilliantly scored by Rodrygo. It was a beautiful ball from their summer signing Aurelien Tchouameni.

Rodrygo celebrated the goal with Vinicius Junior by dancing in front of fans. The second goal was all done by Vinicius. However, his shot hit the post. Although, Fede Valverde converted the rebound to score the second goal for Real Madrid. Athletico Madrid got a goal late in the second half through Mario Hermoso. However, Diego Simeone’s side could not find the equalizer in the match.

The Brazilian star was again racially abused. A number of Athletico supporters were chanting racist chants against him. They were heard shouting,

You are a monkey, Vinicius, you are a monkey“.

However, he did not let the abuses affect him during the game. La Liga have also condemned the actions of Athletico Madrid fans.

They said,

” We denounce all incidents inside and outside stadiums. We work with clubs to keep our football friendly and enjoyable.”Hate speech has no place in La Liga and we always work with the clubs and the authorities to identify and bring to justice any such case.”

Whereas, Vinicius Junior tweeted

Dance wherever you want”.

The racist chants come amid the comments from the President of Spanish football agent Pedro Bravo. Pedro Bravo in an interview had asked Vinicius Junior to stop dancing like a monkey after scoring a goal. However, since the statement, many have supported the Brazilian to dance after scoring.
