Currently, the Arsenal fans think that luck is against them. The referee in each match is a big problem for the Gunners.
UNJUSTIFIED OR DELUSION?
A growing number of them genuinely believe that their team is the victim of a systemic refereeing conspiracy in English football.
Whether it is bias, incompetence, or just an unfortunate string of events, it remains constant for the team to be in constant loss.
Pundits could throw it as a cry for help or complain. There might be officiating, unfortunate bounces, goals scored via deflections off pitch-invading wildlife.
There can be many unfortunate moments. VAR, however, is just likely to even out as old-fashioned. The view of the referee and VAR seems the same as no look for further evidence is occurring.
Arsenal and their supporters seem to be the perfect victims (or more precisely victimizing themselves). Things that have happened to Arsenal but no other team had that inconsistencies in rule application for similar incidents.
Even in the latest clash between Arsenal and Brighton, a penalty was awarded against William Saliba. Referee Anthony Taylor awarded the penalty.
Many claim that the Arsenal defender clashed heads with Joao Pedro, and also made a slight touch on the ball.
REFEREE PROBLEMS
Alan Smith on Sky Sports was one of the many to remember the penalty from a specific match. Mikel Arteta called that decision to be bizarre.
And this does not intend to stop. Arsenal fans were not helped by Dejan Kulusevskiโs shoulder into the head of Anthony Gordon going unpunished earlier on Saturday inย Spurs vs Newcastle.
Again there was another incident of the latest clash where Alexander Isak pushed Martin Odegaard. VAR made no intention of taking to look back.
Back in August’s home game against Brighton, Gunners’ captain Declan Rice received a second yellow card. The referee Chris Kavanagh said he had no other choice.
Just like that Arsenal fans were furious about the decision making. Meanwhile, Pedro kicked the ball as it went out of play, but he didn’t receive a card.
Arsenal has been unfortunate for a long period. From the Invincibles getting beaten by Sir Alex till now, refereeing has been a problem for Arsenal.
Now it is quite becoming a habit for Arteta. Even if VAR is introduced, the situation remains the same, the referee seems to overlook certain situations.
Arsenal’s bad luck seems to be consistent now that referees like Anthony Taylor take the part. Especially this season, maybe the fans are right after all.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
There have been plenty of moments where Arsenal has been unfortunate. It can just be said, quite unlucky.
Arsenal seems to be in a lot of trouble now that conspiracy theories are being made. The refereeing community and their vendetta against the Gunners seem quite reasonable presently.
But, there is always a twist. Maybe Arsenal cannot cope with the ongoing matches, and they have become so weak. Any minor decision can change the course of the Gunners.
Till then, the controversial referee decisions will continue to haunt Arsenal fans. They will try to make a fudge about it, and probably cry more.
Overall, I think referee decisions are vital, some can ruin it, and some modify it. Arteta must think about the transfers rather than complaining about the referee’s decisions.
