As Reiss Nelson returns to the first-team’s full training, Arsenal have been given a big injury boost.
Reiss Nelson back in the squad
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus’ serious injuries have severely limited Arsenal’s offensive options. The pair is expected to be out for months. This has got the team in a tough position during the business end of the season. These injuries have led to a sense of urgency in making some new signings.
Reiss Nelson’s return to the first-team’s full training, they have been given a huge injury boost.
Their recent transfer decisions due to big players facing injuries have had the club in the spotlight. Particularly Nelson’s loan move to Fulham and Raheem Sterling’s temporary signing.
It was expected that Mikel Arteta would make changes to his squad in summer. Due to the current crisis, mainly in attack, they will look to make moves this winter.
Arteta’s club is six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool as of now. The Reds also have a game in hand. His team is still alive in various other competitions, including the Champions League and Carabao Cup. However, their Carabao Cup hopes tool a hit recently. They lost 2-0 to Newcastle United at home in the first leg of the semifinals.
Reiss Nelson to solve the attacking crisis
Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury had the major setbacks for the Gunners this season. The 23-year-old is expected to be on recovery until at least March. This has certainly affected the teams attacking third. This comes at a time when they are desperate to win titles. The effort to maintain the momentum has surely become tough now.
There were departures of Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah, and Emile Smith Rowe last summer. That has made the situation further worse. Nketiah and Smith Rowe were sold to Crystal Palace and Fulham respectively. Nelson was loaned out to Fulham.
He had a decent run of form with two goals in 13 appearances. On December 5, Fulham defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1. Unfortunately, he suffered the hamstring injury in the same game. His manager Marco Silva on his recovery said,”The first feedback I got from the medical staff is that it’s a hamstring injury. He’s going to be out for this game for sure and probably the next game. Let’s see how many more.”
Although, the 25-year-old seems to be near his full fitness. As seen in a recent Instagram post, he is been seen doing high sprints in the training. Teammates like midfielder Alex Iwobi and defender Calvin Bassey are also with him in the training.
The forward would have continued to play throughout the whole period, only if it wasn’t for his injury. He had to fight for his place at his new club. Only six substitute appearances in PL until he made the starting 11. After that he kept his place in the lineup for the next 5 games.
Recalling the striker to the Emirates Stadium
The England international moved to Fulham in a loan deal last summer. His loan move was expected to turn in to a permanent exit initially. But as the things stand, the North London side may be considering to call him back in the January transfer window. They are looking in to other options as well. If they fail to make any new signings, he could also be a good deal.
The Gunners are left with very few options in the team. They are reportedly looking for new players to add strength to the current group. Arsenal are keen to compete with a strong bunch of players to keep their hopes alive to win some silverware this season. They are running for the Premier League, Champions League and domestic competitions this campaign .
Author’s Opinion
The England forward’s injury kept him out, he would have had his chances to show his abilities. There’s so much left in the second half of the season, he can still make impact after coming back.
The North London side could be looking in to his recovery to make any possibilities happen.
