Fernando Alonso holds an extraordinary record, even over the greats like Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.
Fernando Alonso is often remarked on as one of the best driver on the grid. The Spaniard may lack Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher in World Drivers Championship (2 compared to 7). However, the 41-year-old holds an intriguing record that even they both don’t hold.
Fernando Alonso made comeback in Formula 1 in 2021 after moving out of the sport in 2018.
The comeback has been nothing short of ‘fine like a wine’. Outscoring his teammate in 2021 and grabbing consistent points in midfield this season too.
The Spaniard has moved to Aston Martin amid contract extension problems with Alpine F1. He will race with Aston Martin from 2023. The 41-year-old is still performing at his best in this pinnacle of motorsports.
Fernando Alonso record – ‘can win from anywhere’
Nevertheless, Fernando Alonso has given us many wonders on track along with some memorable drives. An interesting record is also to his name.
Alonso has a record of winning a race from nine different starting positions on the grid. One user on reddit posted that, “looks like Fernando can win from anywhere on the grid!”
Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet, David Coulthard, Raikkonen, and both Hamilton and Schumacher, all are on eight for the same record! Moreover, Alain Prost, Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ronnie Peterson, Nigel Mansell, and Jenson Button, all lie on seven.
This record shows how much consistent Alonso is while driving the car. He is famous for his perfect starts and these starts help him to recover even from the back or mid of the grid. Moreover, Alonso can extract the best out of any car.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how he performs at Aston Martin next year.
