According to the Reports, England Cricket Board will name Richard Thompson as the new chair of the regulatory body within the next few days.

While the final call of the ECB board has yet to be made public, it is understood that the 3 separate applicants have been notified, with provisional chair Martin Darlow briefed that he will not continue in the position.

Thompson, the Surrey chair, has been widely regarded as the county’s first choice. The ECB’s hiring process for the role included multiple interviews as well as a complete medical.

The role of the chair at the national board of directors has been empty since Ian Watmore decided to step down in October, and the search for his replacement has been lengthy, with stumbling blocks every time a decision showed up to be near.

In one incident, the ECB narrowed the field to three candidates before deciding that none of them were perfect.

On the other hand, the likely contender, Ron Kalifa, decided to withdraw after determining that his former job as head of the selection committee, which was accused of candidate selection, could jeopardize the process’s authenticity.

Following that, the ECB initiated a completely new procedure with a new chair of the selection committee. Illness slowed the operation even more last month.

Thompson defeated temporary chair Martin Darlow, who has functioned on the ECB board as a voice of recreational cricket and was considered to be the continuity contender, and Alan Dickinson, who is also on the board and is an erstwhile treasurer of Surrey, to the role.
