Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has finally come to his senses and made a final standout on having second thoughts on leaving Robert Sanchez or not for his poor performance against Manchester United.
PROBLEMATIC SEASON FOR ROBERT SANCHEZ
Having only three clean sheets in 16 Premier League appearances, eventually losing his No.1 spot to Djordje Petrovic. Still, he was spared by the Blues manager Enzo for the ongoing season. But all he did was making it worse, including the latest clash in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.
A SMALL CLUB WITH HUGE PROBLEMS
After a poor performance with a draw against Manchester United, Sanchez gifted them a penalty. Rasmus Hojlund was clumsily hackled down, eventually sending him the wrong way. Moises Caicedo scored an equalizer sparing Chelsea’s god-forbidden performance. Whereas the keeper is now leading in the most penalties conceded. Only Arijanet Muric of Ipswich is leading in more errors leading to the goal.
Since moving from Brighton to Stanford Bridge in the summer of 2023 for £20 million, Sanchez has been nothing but a problem for the Blues. Because of that, Chelsea again spent £20.5 million on Filip Jorgensen last summer. He could be the replacement for Sanchez in the starting XI. Enzo could be using different tactics for the next games.
WILL CHELSEA STRUGGLE IN THE CONFERENCE LEAGUE?
Despite Sanchez’s struggle, the Telegraph tells a different story. Chelsea and Enzo still have a little bit of faith left in the 26-year-old. They will still get hold of him in the first line-up.
Chelsea’s belief in this young lad is proof of why Chelsea’s performance is not consistent in the Premier League. They still believe that he will improve within these few days until they face their fierce rivals Arsenal on Sunday. Before then, Chelsea hosted the Armenian side Noah in the Conference League. With Jorgensen, 22, likely to start for the team for all cup games.
AT WHAT EXTENT THE BLUES WILL GO IN TRUST FOR ROBERT SANCHEZ?
Even if after the disastrous performance of Sanchez, it was decided that Chelsea might move away from him. But, Maresca decided to keep him as a backup. However, Petrovic had been sealing his spot since last season. Due to injury, Robert Sanchez dealt with a lot of problems. However, after the poor performance against Manchester United, it was looking like Chelsea might be moving away from Robert, especially after the signing of Filip Jorgensen. But, the decision was made to send Petrovic out on loan to RC Strasbourg, while keeping Sanchez and Jorgensen for Maresca’s squad.
Maresca confirmed that the plan would be to start Sanchez in the league matches. While Jorgensen would be preferred in the Conference League and other domestic cup competitions.
But even after Maresca’s plan, neither Sanchez nor Jorgensen have been very convincing to be the best option for Chelsea’s future. Despite making a critical penalty save for the 1-0 win over AFC Bournemouth, the howling is only getting louder for Jorgensen. During the 1-1 draw against United, it was Sanchez who brought down Hojlund for the penalty.
But even after that, the patience of Chelsea management remains unfazed. Following the draw against Man United, it is reported that the club stands on Sanchez.
Jorgensen will not be the only one to start the No. 1 spot for Chelsea. Even Petrovic has his eyes on returning and reclaiming the spot. Sanchez’s position is for now safe. But he will have to match Chelsea’s belief. Time is passing and the pressure is increasing upon Sanchez. He has time but has to prove himself worthy of the belief.
