Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been forced to borrow money from his celebrity friends to help him run the club until it is sold.
According to The Sun , Roman Abramovich has asked his VIP friends for a loan of $1 million each (about £765,000) to help him pay his Chelsea staff until the club is sold. The Russian owner has his assets in the UK frozen by the government following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Abramovich has seen his assets frozen in various different countries across the globe.
Reports from the US claim that the Chelsea owner has asked various different contacts across Hollywood and Wall Street and tech millionaires for loans. One name on the list is Rush Hour director Brett Ratner. The Russian millionaire has also reportedly also talked to the Rothschild family.
Roman has lost a reported $7.6 billion of his net worth since the Russian invasion of Ukraine started. Reports also suggest that Abramovich has put five of his luxury yachts for sale in the last few weeks.
While the Chelsea owner is leading the peace talks between the two counties. But it seems he has lost the confidence of some of his own countrymen. Roman Abramovich reportedly lost his vision for hours due to a ”suspected poisoning” last week. The Russian hardliners were blamed for the suspected attack.
The Uk government recently allowed the blues to receive a £30 million fund injection via Roman Abramovich’s company. The club were allowed to receive the cash injection in order to fulfill their fixtures and schedule.
Chelsea takeover update
The Chelsea takeover is expected to be completed in the next four to six weeks. The club have two potential bids on their final list. While the UK Government is pushing for the club takeover to be completed as quickly as possible. Reports suggest that the Chelsea faithful will have more news on their potential new owner next week.
On the pitch, the blues lost 3-1 against Real Madrid in the 1st leg of the Quater Finals of the Champions League. The blues look set to be heading out of the Champions League as things stand. While in the league, the club sits very comfortably in 3rd position and have a five points advantage over Tottenham Hotspurs who sit in 4th place.
