Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has suggested that the chances of club-record signing Romelu Lukaku starting against Manchester United are very low. Tuchel has also suggested that Romelu Lukaku will be named on the substitutes’ bench for the next few fixtures.

Romelu Lukaku picked up an ankle injury during a Champions League clash against Malmo in mid-October. Lukaku missed six games due to an ankle injury. But to Chelsea’s delight, he returned to training last week. While he was also named amongst the substitutes in the Champions League clash against Juventus.

Taking to the press Thomas Tuchel said:

“There is a bit of a difference between being ready for training and being ready for games. There’s also a difference between being ready for games and Premier League games.

“The possibility that he starts is not very high. We cannot be sure what happens inbetween matches. And we have to find the balance between giving minutes. And being absolute competitive for 90 minutes with the guys who start.”

Chelsea currently are struggling with injuries. N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell both picked up injury issues during the 4-0 thrashing of Juventus in the Champions League. There were fears that Chilwell could miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury. But Tuchel is cautiously optimistic that the left-back on top form will not require surgery. He could return in six weeks but his injury needs to be managed carefully.

Kai Havertz to start up front again for Chelsea?

Lukaku’s strike partner Timo Werner is also back from his injury setback. Timo Werner came off the bench to score the 4th goal against Juventus in the Champions League. The German striker could lead the attack against Manchester United and for the next few fixtures until Lukaku’s return to full fitness.

While both the strikers were out Kai Havertz filled in at the striker position. While the German could be called back by Thomas Tuchel to lead the line against Manchester United.

Thomas Tuchel also insisted that Chelsea were not better without Romelu Lukaku in the squad. He also said that he’s looking forward to getting the Belgian star striker back in the squad.

Romelu Lukaku could still come off the bench and make a difference in the Manchester United clash. The Belgian forward had spent his time at Manchester United from 2017 to 2019 and could come back to haunt his former side in the clash on Sunday.
