Cristiano Ronaldo appears in the official video introducing Manchester United’s new kit for the 2022/23 season. Since last week, rumours have lingered over the 37-year-old’s long-term future at Old Trafford.

The veteran reportedly asked to leave because the team wouldn’t be playing in the Champions League, and lack of activity in the summer market. However, the United management has rejected this request and insisted that the Portuguese is not for sale.

Regardless, Ronaldo is yet to report for pre-season duty for United. He has cited family reasons as the cause of his absence. However, United hasn’t changed anything about the 30-second announcement video that was released on Friday, keeping the Portuguese superstar in it.

It may not mean much though, in the grand scheme of things. Ronaldo also modelled for Real Madrid’s 2018/19 kit and Juventus’ 2021/22 kit and left promptly after. His future may not be decided by a kit announcement video.

Ronaldo And His Future At Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United to be the final piece of the puzzle. They had regressed in the previous years, and the pain was made worse by Manchester City’s dominance. They had an impressive season in 2020/21, finishing second. On Ronaldo’s arrival, people believed that the Red Devils can reclaim the Premier League.

But this was not to be. Ronaldo had a fine individual season, but the team struggled. Fellow new signings like Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane struggled, and players like Rashford, Maguire and Shaw did not carry their good form from last season. It led to United’s worst points tally in the Premier League era.

This has frustrated Ronaldo. He is nearing 40, and wants to play for a side with whom he can compete for the big prizes. Manchester United do not seem to be that destination right now. They will look to keep Ronaldo, but reports suggest that they may accept a suitable offer should it come.
