Arsenal were denied what could have been a memorable win on Sunday last week against defending champions, Manchester City. The Gunners lost the title back-to-back two times over the previous two seasons to City. So, over the past two and three years, these two sides’ rivalry has leveled up a lot. However, Arsenal was about to give the first loss of the season to Manchester City before city managed to escape from the last. After the match, Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, pointed out many things about the match and was not happy about the decision of the referee at all. Former Manchester United player and pundit, Roy Keane, criticized Arteta and his post-match remarks.
Arsenal drew with Manchester City in the Premier League
Manchester City took the lead within ten minutes into the match against at the Etihad, only before the newly signed Arsenal defender, Riccardo Calafiori, leveled up the match with a stunning strike from outside of the box. The Gunners completed the comeback at the end of the first half when Gabriel scored the second goal for the Gunners. Gabriel scored his second consecutive goal in the Premier League.
A minute after Arsenal took the lead at Etihad, a disaster happened for the Gunners as Leandro Trossard was shown a second yellow card and was ultimately shown a red card. Arsenal went in to the half-time break with a goal lead and a man loss.
In the second half, it was all about the dominance of City. However, Pep Guardiola’s men failed to break the Arsenal defense until John stones scored the equalizer in the 97th minute of the game after coming off the bench. The Gunners were denied what could have been their first win over Manchester City at Etihad since 2015.
Roy Keane’s comment on Mikel Arteta’s post-match reaction
After the match, Mikel Arteta got furious over the referee’s decision of the red card. Arteta believed that if Trossard got the red card for kicking the ball, Jeremy Doku of Manchester City should also have been sent off for the same reason.
In this particular comment, Roy Keane tore into Arsenal’s boss and suggested that he should have accepted the decision made by the referee. According to the news published by Mirror, Roy Keane said on Sky Sports,
“Managers are coming out every week saying every decision is against them. Just come out and accept it.”
This is not the first time that Keane talked about Arteta’s reaction. Back in January 2023, Keane also had a similar complaint against Mikel Arteta. The former Manchester United star was not happy at all about the Arsenal boss’s post-match reaction.
