Ruturaj Gaikwad played whirlwind innings against Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 scoring an unbeaten double-hundred. But that was not the major highlight of his innings.
Ruturaj took Shiva Singh to the cleaners in the 49th over scoring 43 runs off him. He scored 7 sixes off 7 balls with a ball being a no-ball in that over. He again scored a daddy hundred against Assam narrowly missing another double ton. Gaikwad stated that his double century was superior to the one he scored against Assam and that he wasn’t overly sad to have missed out on a second consecutive double ton.
“No disrespect to Assam bowlers but UP was a far better and all-round attack. And we had lost two early wickets and it was my first comeback game after the injury and our first knockout game, so there was much more pressure so I would rate the innings against UP higher,”
Gaikwad told Sportstar.
“I wasn’t disappointed at all. In fact, I was in such a zone that I didn’t even realize I had crossed 150 and didn’t even raise the bat, so missing out on a double hundred is not a big deal at all.”
Gaikwad mentioned Shiva Singh and said that even Stuart Broad had gone through such an over but he eventually turned out to be one of the greats to play for England.
“He must have been understandably dejected but all I would like to remind him is to remember Stuart Broad went for six sixes in an over (in the 2007 World Twenty20) and has had an outstanding career, so there’s a lesson in it for every bowler,”
