Manchester United are closing in on appointing Ruud van Nistelrooy as a new member of their coaching staff. The 47-year old will be making a return to the Old Trafford as an Assistant Coach to Erik Ten Hag.
The Red Devils would endure a stunningly poor campaign. The Manchester Reds would finish the league on a record-low securing 8th place with 60 points. Moreover, they would end the campaign conceding up to 84 goals across all competitions!
However, the Red Devils would end the season on a positive note securing a much needed victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. Moreover, they would also secure Europa League qualification ahead of Chelsea and Newcastle. United under Ten Hag would manage to win 2 trophies in back to back seasons clinching the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.
Although, INEOS would still be uncertain of Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford. Subsequently, they would consider alternatives for the 54-year old Dutchman. Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel would be one of the favorites. But, Tuchel chose to take break from managing altogether this campaign.
Consequently, Manchester United decided to keep Erik Ten Hag at the Theatre of Dreams. Furthermore, the Dutchman will also be signing a new contract with the Red Devils.
Fabrizio Romano: van Nistelrooy ‘tempted’ by Manchester United!
Van Nistelrooy is regarded as a Manchester United Legend for his contributions over the 5-year spell at Old Trafford. The striker would bag an impressive 150 goals for the Red Devils in 219 appearances. He would conclude his illustrious career playing for Malaga in 2012. Over the course of his club career, van Nistelrooy made 592 appearances and scored 349 goals! Additionally, he would also win 70 caps for the Netherlands and manage to score 35 times for the Oranje.
Subsequently, he would assist the Oranje as a coach in the 2014 World Cup. Thereafter, he would become the Head Coach of PSV Eindhoven’s U19 squad. He would also be a part of Ronald Koeman’s coaching staff as an Assistant Manager in the EURO 2020 for the Oranje.
Followingly, van Nistelrooy became the Head Coach of PSV in 2022. He would go on to win the Johan Cruyff Shield (2022) and the KNVB Cup with PSV in 2023. However, the 47-year old chose to step down from his role amidst lack of support at PSV.
Ruud van Nistelrooy enjoyed plenty of success over his time at Manchester United. He would help the Red Devils to a Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and the FA Community Shield.
Subsequently, it seems that van Nistelrooy is quite keen to make a return to the Theatre of Dreams. Renowned Journalist Fabrizio Romano updated about the situation in his podcast stating:
โWhat Iโm hearing is that Ruud van Nistelrooy is very tempted by this possibility to go back to Manchester United.“
United Legend snubs Burnley offer!
Considering his glorified player career and his experience as a manager, van Nistelrooy would be a great addition to a number of clubs. Burnley were keen to secure the Dutchman after Vincent Kompany’s departure to Bayern Munich.
Moreover, a Head Coach role would have definitely help the 47-year old to propel his managerial career. However, van Nistelrooy has chosen to reject Burnley’s offer and take a coaching job at Manchester United instead!
His love for the Red Devils is quite evident and his addition would definitely be a big statement. Furthermore, van Nistelrooy has a connection with Jarrad Branthwaite since his days at PSV on loan in the 2022/23 campaign.
Moreover, the 47-year old could form a great partnership with Ten Hag over their Dutch roots. Additionally, United’s 21-year young striker Rasmus Hojlund will surely be benefitting a lot from van Nistelrooy.
